Happy Shopping Week!! Let's dive into some deals for the week. One thing I keep noticing week after week is EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE!!! Anytime I can stock up on an item whether it has a long shelf life or I can freeze - I'll do it. It may be a little more in the weekly budget but it's definitely worth it so I'm not paying full price later.
Reminder - Fred Meyer will no longer be sending a print ad to homes! Their ads will strictly be online and through the app. You can grab a print copy at the store but beginning May 28th no more print - just wanted to give you a heads up in case you rely on those coming to your inbox.
If you'd like to see me add anything else to this round-up, send me a message! Cheers till next week - stay tuned for the Friday weekly recipe!
Winco
These deals were spotted at the Happy Valley location* and could vary by location.
Winco didn't have too many new deals for the regular items I consistently check on - I've highlighted those items I've shared before with the same price as last week. Many still a better price than competitors. I'm not sure what day they change their deals or if it's random - I am going to investigate next trip.
- London Broil - $3.98/lb
- London Broil is a great cut of meat for so many uses! I will cut thin to use for fajitas or shawarma. You can also use in many Lebanese peasant dishes such as Spinach & Rice or Peas & Rice. London Broil can also be grilled, simply marinade for 3-24 hours, sear on all sides then cook on indirect heat until internal temperature reaches 135-145. Allow to rest and slice.
- Polar Sparkling Water - $1.98/12 pack
- If you're a sparkling water fan this is a fabulous deal! Last time they had them on special they were $2.98. This is a $1 cheaper! Lots of flavors available.
- Wine - $$$
- I know wine isn't a grocery necessity but it often gets added to the cart - am I right? I price shop wine just like any other food. I've been getting some great ones from Costco but often times Winco has great deals. As far as reds - we are an Oregon Pinot Noir house. There were a few good deals on some Oregon Pinots that were cheaper than competitors:
- Duck Pond - $12.64
- King Estate - $15.17
- Acrobat - $14.42
- Eola Hills - $11.48

There were a few good deals on some Oregon Pinots that were cheaper than competitors:
- Cosmic Crisp Apples - $0.98/lb
- Cosmic Crisp apples are delicious and this is a good price for them. Love having a few for snacks and school lunches. Even though it's not fall apple season, still a great snack - you can also try this apple cake!!
- Avocados - $0.78 each
- Prices are steadily going up on the avocados! Still a great price but almost double from a few weeks ago at $0.48!
- Pineapple - $1.47
- Pineapple is hot right now, got some last week from Fred Meyer and they were quite juicy.
- English Cucumbers - $0.88 each
- We go through cucumbers like CRAZY around here and I think the English and Persian are the BEST! I like the English since they are large, no seeds and stay quite fresh in their wrapping. I usually pay around $1.50 for one so $0.88/each is a steal!
- Red + Orange + Yellow Peppers - $0.98 each
- Red peppers are up in price but the yellow and orange dropped which is great! We love peppers and great for cooking too!
- Winco Brand Butter - $3.38/lb
- Finally went up in price from $2.98
- Dark Chocolate (and white) Melting Wafers - $0.98/lb (bulk) - still on sale
- I used to make cake pops and these melting wafers were the BEST! The ones at Winco are actually Guittard Chocolate which is delish - for some reason the dark and white melting wafers were $0.98/lb today!! Usually they are closer to $4/lb! So definitely a good deal. These are also awesome in cookies, chopped up and use whenever you need dark chocolate. If you won't use them all immediately, freeze them for the best texture later - especially for cake pops.
- Walnuts (chopped and halves and pieces) - $2.98/lb (bulk) - still on sale
Safeway

- Whole or Value Pack Chicken (limit 2) - $0.97/lb
- If you aren't buying a pre-cooked whole chicken from Costco, this is the next best thing and great price. If you are intimidated about cooking a whole chicken - check out my post with all the details.
- Fresh Half Pork Loin Rib (limit 1) - $0.97/lb
- This is a bone-in cut, but delicious. Includes both the loin and ribs.
- Asparagus - $1.77/lb
- While my kids could live without seeing asparagus - it is in season and delicious! Try this simple breakfast pizza!
- Quaker Cereal or Chewy Bars - $1.69 each (limit 6 - must buy 3)
- Quaker has some good cereals including Life and Oatmeal Squares. Shrinkflation has definitely impacted cereal but $1.69 isn't bad, even if it's a smaller box. Granola bars are good for sports snacks or classroom snacks this time of year.
- Half Gallon Milk or Signature Select Bread - $0.97 (limit 4) with digital coupon
- Lucere ½ gallons of milk or Signature Select Breads are $0.97 each, limit 4 with digital coupon. We go through milk quickly and at $2 for a gallon - it's a great stock up. I'll also use some to make labneh.
- Avocados - $0.48 (limit 4) with digital coupon
- This is a good price but alas, limit 4. For my family of 5 that won't get us far but nice to throw into the cart.
- Signature Select Bacon 3lb packages - $2.47/lb (limit 2) with digital coupon
- Safeway puts these on sale often and they are quite good. Packages come to about $7.41 each. Not a bad deal for BLTs or Sunday baconfest!
- Haagen-Dazs - $1.97 each (limit 4) with digital coupon
- Honestly, I'm selfish when these come on sale - last time they had them for $0.97 but limit 2. For an extra buck, I'll grab 4 and usually pickup the coffee flavored ones. A little splurge on a good ice cream!
- 12 Packs of Beer - $16.97 each (limit 2) with digital coupon
- This is close to Costco pricing for beer - this sale includes Deschutes, Hop Valley or 10 Barrel.
Fred Meyer
Digital coupons apply to many of these deals as well - be sure to download via the app and link your rewards card. 4x fuel points on any Home, Apparel or Electronics Purchases.
- Red or Black Grapes - $1.49/lb
- I'm glad I picked up grapes last week from Safeway - mainly because my kids like green grapes. But $1.49/lb is another great sale!! No limit!
- Whole Foster Farms Chicken - $0.99/pound (limit 2)
- Similar deal to Safeway but with Foster Farms vs Signature Select - so really depends on your preference. This includes Drumsticks or Thighs as well. Split chicken breasts are $1.79/lb
- Simple Truth Natural Ground Turkey - $3.99/each (up to 5x in one transaction with coupon)
- Dare I say it, I prefer ground turkey to ground beef most of the time. We have been making these ground turkey burgers for as long as I can remember and just IN LOVE! Definitely give them a try and for $3.99 for a pound - it's a great deal!
- Cara Cara or Heirloom Navels - $2.99 each (up to 5x in one transaction with coupon)
- 3lbs of Heirlooms or 2lbs of Cara Cara - we love the Heirloom oranges and have been great this year. Comes to $1/lb which isn't bad.
- Half Gallon Milk - $1.29 each (up to 5x in one transaction with coupon)
- If you need more milk and shop at Fred Meyer vs Safeway, another comparable deal.
- Kettle Brand Chips/Franz Bread or Kroger Juice - $1.99 each (up to 5x in one transaction with coupon)
- Mix and match either Kettle brand chips, Franz Bread or Kroger juices - the chips and bread are a good deal and definitely worth stocking up on!
New Seasons
New Seasons will be holding their Halibut Sale on May 6th from 9am-5pm. This is the first of the season. You can call or stop in to pre-order your halibut (which I recommend). The halibut is sold as whole fish but you can let them know how you want it cut up, packaged, etc. Ready for the freezer. This is a highly sought out sale. The halibut is $14.99/lb - but remember you are paying for the whole fish, you can certainly hang onto the bones/carcass for fish stock.
If you are signed up for their rewards program, there should be a $5 off $35 you can load onto your digital rewards - x2!
- Groundwork Coffee - $8.99 (12oz)
- Coffee is one of the every growing expensive items, Groundwork is local PNW and makes some great coffee! Usually retails upwards of $15
- Annie's Mac & Cheese - $0.99/box
- I know this is a hot one for families with little ones - no limit and a great price!!
- Mary's Organic Whole Fryer Chickens - $2.99/lb
- For those that are looking for organic whole chicken - Mary's is one of the best brands. Good price for the quality.
- Muir Glen 28oz Tomatoes - $3 each
- I always have canned tomatoes on hand and Muir Glen is a good brand, I use them to make sauce and especially for tomato pie!
Costco
I made a quick trip to Costco this week and spotted a few things.
- Whole Chicken - $4.99/each
- I know there is a love/hate relationship with these chickens but let me tell you - for $4.99, it's a STEAL! We typically don't eat just off the bone as-is, I usually make something with it. This week I made chicken salad and quesadillas so far. I'll also toss the carcasses into the Instant Pot to make some stock. So for $10 I'm getting my money's worth!
- 2 dozen Cage Free Eggs - $4.99
- Eggs have gone down in price a bit since the crazy hike. Costco is selling 2 dozen Cage Free (not organic) for $4.99 which is a good price.
- Half and half - $4.49 each
- A half gallon of ½ and ½ is $4.49 and seems to be a consistently good price compared to conventional stores. The expiration date is long so I usually pick one up and just store in the fridge.
- Miller Paint - $69.99 for $100 Gift Card
- Costco is a great for larger amount gift cards - one I spotted this week was for $69.99 for $100 worth of products from local PNW Miller Paint. If you are looking to do any spring refreshing - this is a great deal, especially since you can totally stack with their sales!
