5 minutes and no cooking required will yield you the most delicious Lebanese Shawarma Seasoning! With a blend of the most aromatic spices, this will be your go-to seasoning mix for chicken, beef or veggies!

Shawarma is such a popular dish throughout the Middle East. And what makes it all possible is this flavor packed spice mixture. There are plenty of store bought packets - but making your own blend lets you be in control of what goes in and how much to use in each dish.

With a blend of cumin, coriander, garlic powder, cinnamon, ginger, all spice, cardamom, ground turmeric, paprika, black pepper, aleppo pepper and salt - the burst of vibrant flavors can't be denied! These warm flavors give meats and veggies a fantastic flavor boost. My Chicken Shawarma Recipe is one of the most loved for its simplicity and flavor punch, not to mention a quick 30 minute meal!

    Ingredients

Making Shawarma Seasoning couldn't be easier, simply a blend of spices but don't let these deter you from adding your own to the mix.

shawarma seasoning spices on a plate
    • Ground Cumin - gives the blend a warm, earthy flavor
    • Ground Coriander - even if you aren't a fan of cilantro (that's me!!) coriander is a lovely spice that gives a bit of a tart citrusy note to the blend
    • Garlic Powder - never enough garlic flavor
    • Ground Cinnamon - many Arab savory dishes contain cinnamon, it lends a lovely warm and just a hint of sweet flavor
    • Ground Ginger - a little kick from ginger
    • Ground Allspice - another warm spice that is both sweet and savory in notes
    • Ground Cardamom - not a spice everyone has on hand, but if you do - add it - it really adds a bit of intriguing flavor to your shawarma unlike any other
    • Ground Turmeric - more warm and earthy flavor from turmeric
    • Black Pepper - a little pop of boldness from the black pepper
    • Paprika - you can opt to use a sweet or smoked in this mix - whatever your preference or what you have on hand
    • Aleppo Pepper - Aleppo pepper is a nice warm spice, it doesn't pack too much heat - you can add in some cayenne if you are looking for some heat
    • Kosher Salt
    • **Cayenne Pepper - if you'd like a little spice

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

This recipe really simply about measuring and mixing!

shawarma seasoning spices in a bowl whisked

Combine your dry spices into a bowl and whisk until fully combined. Fill mix into a clean jar with tight fitting lid and store your spice mixture in a cool, dry location for up to 6 months.

    Sourcing Spices

If you are just getting started with cooking, you may not have all these spices in your pantry YET! One economical way to try these various spices economically is purchasing small amounts in the bulk section of your grocery store. This way you can try a little without breaking the bank.

Many Arab grocery stores will carry all these spices and will often sell smaller quantities as well. If you don't have a particular spice - omit it or swap for something similar. The mix is versatile and you can adapt to make your own. Don't feel confined to the exact spices especially if you have budgetary restraints.

    Storage

Store your Shawarma seasoning in a sealed jar. Keep in a dry, dark place. The spice mixture is good for 6 months.

    Why We Love This Recipe

It's amazing what a handful of spices will do for a recipe - this spice blend is easy to put together and perfect to have on hand!

    Description

You will love this blend of Lebanese Shawarma Spices - perfect to cook chicken, beef or even veggies. The warm spices make for a flavorful dish.

This mix makes about 1 ¼ cup. I use about 3 Tablespoons for 2-3 pounds of meat, you can adjust to your liking.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 4 Tablespoons kosher salt **half the amount if you are using table salt
    • 4 Tablespoons ground cumin
    • 4 teaspoon ground coriander
    • 4 teaspoons garlic powder
    • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 4 teaspoons ground ginger
    • 4 teaspoons ground allspice
    • 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
    • 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
    • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
    • 2 teaspoons ground paprika **sweet or smoked
    • 2 teaspoons ground Aleppo pepper
    • **2 teaspoons ground cayenne pepper - optional for spice

    Instructions

    1. Combine all spices into a bowl and whisk to combine.
    2. Pour into a jar with tight sealing lid. Store in a cool dry location.
    3. Good for up to 6 months.

    Notes

    • Feel free to sub or omit any spices you don't have on hand. This recipe is adaptable to your own liking and budget.
    • I use Diamond Kosher salt in my recipes - if you are using standard table salt, please HALF the amount to 1 Tablespoon. Kosher salt is much less salty.
